Happy New Year! [01 Jan 2006|11:46am]
My resolution is to update more than ever 2-3 months! I had a very crafty holiday with gift cards to Joann's and Michaels and two books, weekend knitting and the sweater workshop (which as we speak is helping me design my first sweater). I'm also going to try my hand at spinning as soon as I can decide on a drop spindle, there are 500000 different kinds, I'm open to suggestions. And on to the FO segment of this blog entry :

Image hosted by Photobucket.com

Leaf Lace pullover from Teva Durham from IK summer, minus of course the wood nymph pose. I'm sad to report I detest just about everything about this sweater. I can totally see where I grafted the body part together, the shaping feels odd to me, and I'm just meh on it. I like the yarn though (knitpicks sierra), so I guess that's something.

Image hosted by Photobucket.com

My must have cardi is complete! Minus of course buttons but I wore it over a tank top anyway on christmas day. I bought these ladybug buttons for it on a whim, I still can't decide if I like them or not. I do love this sweater though! It was knit from Merino Style (I should have knitpicks give me a kickback from how much I use/advertise for their yarn!). With how I play with gauge I should be damn lucky anything fits correctly.

Image hosted by Photobucket.com

Kitty Pi for the rats. I yoinked the paw print intarsia pattern from A Second Treasury of Magical knitting. I need to knit two more, since they fight over this one, and really they don't all fit in it no matter how hard they try.

Image hosted by Photobucket.com

Keeping with the kitty theme I made a kittyville hat from s&b, from leftover Merino style from the must have cardi. I plan to eventually make a pair of converable mittens from the other two skeins with paw pads on them. It sure beats spending $70 on a hoodie with matching paw mittens from Emily the Strange. sorry about the quality of the pic when I tried to do flash I looked like someone had painted me white.

</center>Image hosted by Photobucket.com</center>

Sling bag from The Second Treasury of Magical Knitting. The yarn amount they have listed is waaay off just fyi if you knit one. I didn't do all the rounds on the strap and I still only had an inch left after I finished the (rather small) bag part. It was really cool to knit and I love love the mobius cast on and I loved how it looked when it came off the needles but it's just not big enough for me. I carry books, knitting stuff (animals, small children..) around with me everywhere and it just doesn't fit the bill. Maybe a future auction item?

And completely unrelated to knitting, the faux stained glass cack I bought for the bedroom windows. The still unpainted unfinished bedroom which really needs to be done. I'm doing a purple and leaves theme I guess since I really want to try that faux finishing paint on the walls and vineyard is a purty color. Hopefully now that the holidays are over I'll actually have time to do these things.

I'm not working on anything really special right now, I have a sock on needles and I started a wallet last night, right now I need to take my steamer and clean under the fridge, I got the inside yesterday (do we know how to party on NYE or WHAT?) in preration for them to take it away and deliver the new on on Friday.

Hope everyone had a safe and happy holiday!

See when I say I'm not going to update I update more. [20 Nov 2005|01:27pm]
I was digging through my knitting cack getting prepared to put it in my new office (um if I ever get our bedroom painted so I can move the bed out of the office) and I came across my secret shame of UFOs. There are actually more than this but I was running out of space on my camera memory card.

A pair of socks for my ds, my own pattern, my koolaid dyed knitpicks yarn. Ends need woven in, he'll probably grow out of them before I get the ends woven in, lol. Felted potholders from when I was practicing entrelac as you can see they are not felted. Noro envelope bag, can't recall where I got the pattern, no ends woven in not felted strap not sewn on. I don't know why I hate finishing things so much. The knitting part well that's fun, when it comes to the rest of it, obviously it sits in a drawer. Also added to the list of things not felted is the entrelac bag I made, it's sitting there too with it's ends out and no straps. I think I need to make a new year's resolution about finishing things.

My must have cardi, needs sleeves, maybe after I finish my socks *paranoia*.

I also have yarn sitting to make cases for my small devices (cell phone, zen micro) we shall see if I ever actually get to that. In my planned projects list: leaf lace sweater, kitty pi (or possibly the cat bed from A Second Treasury of Magical Knitting when it gets here), 3 or 4 pairs of socks? And finishing up the afghan I started last year and am not even halfway through.

My non knitting projects include painting our bedroom, here is the wall after spending an entire day taking down wallpaper and fugly border:

Sadly that is one of the nicer looking walls, the room was nasty. I still haven't decided on a color, or if I want to attempt to faux finish or much of anything. I'm also planning on painting my office, but I have colors in mind already, really gaudy colors to ensure nobody bothers me in there, lol. Actually the only room that is 'done' so to speak is Xander's room it was the most recently painted and it's a pretty blue.

And my project today, yardwork

This is actually great compared to the 20 bags of leaves we picked up a few weeks ago. Homeownership at it's finest.

Christmas Knitting DONE [18 Nov 2005|01:06pm]
Thank god. And we closed on our house Monday, whoo! Here is most of it, I couldn't post pictures of some finished things because someone would see them that shouldn't *winkwink*.

Bath set for an aunt. that weird netted bag thing is a soap saver. The initial cloth came from www.knittingknonsense.com, the soap bag from http://www.crochetpatterncentral.com and the last one was just a basic basketweave.

Socks for my dad size 13 *faint* made out of essential from knitpicks from a vintage 1950s pattern book I got from a friend http://www.purpleduckie.com. I hated the essential sock yarn, it was rough and split like crazy, never again.

Sherri's lace socks from sockbug for my grandma. http://sockbug.blog-city.com/

Dayflower lace scarf for my mother in law, made out of knitpicks elegance. Now that is a fabulous yarn so soft *drool* I want to make a sweater out of it someday.

I am so glad all of this is done! I have a pair of opal tiger sock yarn socks on the needles that are dying to be finished, along with my must have cardigan. I'm going to rip the half of a sleeve I have done and just do two at the same time like I should have doh. I also think I'm going to attempt this http://www.yarn.com/art/valley/laceleafpullover.gif after the holidays are over. IT's beautiful I wanted to do simply marilyn until I came across that. And a cat bed, I actually need to make three cat beds. When/if I get new furniture I do not want the animals on it!

Happy holidays in case I get lazy updating again.

Lelah's done and thinking ahead to christmas... [24 Sep 2005|01:38pm]
Chrismtas is coming! Ok in three months but still, for knitting people three months is possibly even pushing it a little big! My list is as follows...

Dad: Socks, I want to make them with a cable rib, we'll see how that goes.
Grandma: Socks also.
MIL: Falling leaves scarf out of andean treasure.
Aunt #1: Initial washcloths, + a flower cloth. They will be in a basket with soap.
Aunt #2: Bag

Not bad, not expensive either, I like that.

Here is lelah...

Still working on the must have cardi, and a pair of socks for a kid.

About time dontcha think? [30 Aug 2005|01:00pm]
It's been a long hot summer here in Oh-hell-o, so I haven't been doing a lot of knitting, just a lot of whining about how hot it is. In any case I finally did finish some projects, bought some yarn, and am ready to jump into fall head first, but only if there's a pile of leaves under me.

The Shrug: Probably the most popular knit item right now, so I had to make one too. My first project with actual shaping that I made sans pattern. One sleeve is not longer than the other, it's the funny way I'm standing there telling my child to get out of the way of the camera, lol. It's made out of andean silk which is a dream to knit with.

Victim, erm project two The Cami from Vintage Knits: I'm not too happy with this thing, according to their sizing I should have made a medium. I did it was huge. I ripped the whole thing out and made a small, it's still huge. I threaded i-cord through the eyelet holes and have to tie it really tight to keep people from getting a glimpse of my stuff. But here it is anyway in all it's glory.

I also made a very unremarkable zen micro case, I'm making a better felted one with knitpicks sock yarn though.

Here is my newest stash.

Out of that I will be making, the must have cardi, the lelah top from knitting for boozehags, and of course what I will call "the perfect and functional zen micro case".

And last but not least my shoes. I so do not wear things like this but when I saw them they yelled at me to try them on, then when I tried them on they yelled at me to buy them. My grandma liked them, although I'm not sure if that's a good thing since my grandma also told me I should take up modeling *snort*. (* I adore my grandma, but she thinks I'm much more beauimus than I actually am, which is really a grandma's job anyway no?)

Adventures in Dying.. [05 Jul 2005|01:32pm]
I've koolaid dyed before but this time I decided to try stripes. *twitch* what a nightmare. And my stripes aren't very stripey either.

How I tied the yarn up..

Hanging on my basement clothesline drying and the dyejob..

The socks I'm knitting out of it (bad dark pic, damn rain)

I think the next step is going to be food coloring dyes. This site has a ton of colors http://www.sugarcraft.com/catalog/coloring/powdered.htm I know I'd need to add vinegar but I'm not really finding the info I need on how much blah blah blah. I'd love to be able to get results like these http://www.discountyarnsale.com/LLcc.jpg especially Vera. I'm making a shawl with my three other skeins of dye your own merino sock. I'm attempting to design my own pattern, a square that folds in half to form triangle. Sounds not too hard right?

These are some awesome vintage knitting books I got from a friend..

The one in the right top corner has a meelion lace patterns plus a million more other patterns.

And last but not least meet my new temporary kittens..

I found them crying pitifully a few days ago in the people in back of me's bushes (that is a horrible sentence sorry). All of the no kill shelters are full so today they go to the vet to have their eyes looked at. Then I'm keeping them until I find homes for them. They are so sweet, but damn 4 cats = wayyy too many.

Ways in which you know you're a true fiber addict. [24 Jun 2005|11:27am]
1.) You're excited that it's been decided to do cell phones instead of landlines in the new place because you can knit a cozy for your phone. You don't really give a crap about the phone though.

2.) Your husnbad calls your knitting catalogs your porn.

3.) You suffer through the heat to knit a pure wool afghan just because there's nothing else to do.

4.) Number 3 comes when you've used up all your other bits of yarn making felted potholders, 5 of them to be exact.

5.) It's only June yet you can't wait until the new fall yarns come out.

6.) When looking around houses, you think to yourself all the neat rugs you can knit.

7.) A monitor cozy that looks like a bear sounds like a good idea.

Fianlly Updating! [19 Jun 2005|03:06pm]
[ mood | stressed ]

Very exciting no?

I haven't really been knitting a whole lot (or eating or sleeping)thanks to the stress of house hunting but I do have a few things to show for the last month or so.

This bear is from the knitted teddy bear, he looks a little emaciated for some reason, I probably could have stuffed him a bit more...

I may or may not have crocheted him a teeny tiny blanket too, of course I don't have a picture of that because the ends need weaving in badly.

Thanks to my buddy http://loominboo.blogspot.com/ loominboo I decided to tackle entrelac. It's really easy once you get the hang of it. Here is Entrelac Suki completed. This is such a great way to use up scrap yarn.

Pattern is here http://freefriends.org/~mare/pattern1.html

Here is my foray into lace knitting. Really it started nightmarish but now it's going well..

This is a pattern from knitty http://www.knitty.com/ISSUEspring05/PATTbranchingout.html only instead of 8s I used 4s and knitpicks alpaca lace yarn. When I first started knitting with it, I wanted to cry it's so thin and well threadlike, but now I adore it, my scarf is about 3 feet in legnth right now and I can fit it all in a closed fist it's so light and airy.

Finally here is my favorite companion while I'm on the computer :).

I think I'm going to buy 3 skeins of dye your own merino sock, see how well they turn out dyed then if it's good make the lotus blossom shawl out of them. If they turn out badly, well there's always socks!

Later gators, hopefully the next time I update I'll have bought a house :D.

I interrupt my crafty blog for an important message! [28 May 2005|12:41pm]
[ mood | cheerful ]

My child is potty trained. That's right completely. It will be one week on monday since I've had to change a diaper, he hasn't had an accident since tuesday. Do the happy 'good lord I was sick of diapers' happy dance with me! :D In a way though it's bitter sweet, he is definietly no longer a baby now, he is big very big. And here he is making a monster face...

On the knitting front I finished the cabled bag I wanted to design, it just needs to be fulled. I'm hoping the fulling makes it stonger without totally erasing the cables *crosses finers*. I located a renegade skein of cotton in my stash box and decided to remake the cabled newsboy with it. I had a totally off gauge on the last one and it was too small.

I keep looking at yarn and thinking 'meh' maybe I'm sick? Or maybe the money I have in pay pal isn't much and there won't be more for awhile so I'm loathe to buy anything right now. House search has begun sooo spare money is out the winder.

I finished my big sack sweater, you know just in time for summer. And yes I wanted it this big, it's so comfy for when it's a meelion below here in Oh-ell-o. When Xander saw my sweater he asked if I'd make a little one for him <3. I want to get this book...http://www.knitpicks.com/books/books_display.aspx?itemid=30619# Looks like they have a ton of great kiddo things in there. Excuse the mirror picture, I tried to use the self timer and kept cutting off body parts in very unflattering ways..

And my sheep. Xander keeps telling me it's legs are broken, and that it needs bandaids. I guess I should have stuffed the legs better.

Well I wound up returning that handpaintedyarn.com stuff. I got to the second skein and some parts were so thin that I didn't feel comfy making anything out of it. Same with the third and fourth skeins too. Blah. What a disappointment. I figure I'll use the $$ to get the LP Bulky and really make Cleaves like I wanted to to begin with. This is what I get for changing my mind so much.

I'm in an experimental phase right now. I have so many leftovers from other projects (some very sizable) so I'm attempting a fulled/aran-ish bag. I really wanted to play with 220 aran stitches, I've got a few rows done, I have no idea how it will full. I'm going to have to do a swatch to check.

I also realized that I have at least enough light brown left to do a bear from The Knitted Teddy Bear. I should really take inventory more often.

I cannot believe I'm going on a willing yarn diet, what with the other yarnies think of me? *hangs head in shame*.

Be prepared for pictures...l [13 May 2005|12:27pm]
[ mood | accomplished ]

Whoohooo I finished and almost finished a lot of stuff since last update.

First the latest star, I decided that I wanted a change and put ruffles around the edges for a very girly look.

I think this is my favorite one to date. I made the center white part in sugar and cream and the pinks in cotton-ease. I think cotton-ease is on it's way out which is a shame, it's a really good yarn.

My hurry up spring armwarmers made in Noro silk garden, I still have a ton left, I could have done these with one skein. Maybe I'll make a hat with the leftovers.

The skull bag from www.helloyarn.com. It was a really fabulous quick knit, one DVD later it was finished.

My Debbie Bliss Toy Knits sheep, still in parts though. I dread having to finish this thing, really I do, all that sewing and small parts :|.

I ordered yarn from handpaintedyarn.com originally to make Cleaves, but getting it home and not being all too pleased with the color I decided instead to do some kind of funky cropped/cabled cardigan. I was kind of disappointed, but well you know when you buy cheap....

Here's a picture of it, sadly it looks better in the picture than it does IRL. I was expecting a bit more variation I guess. It looks a little better since I washed it though it really looked all beige when it got here, and it reeked to high heaven of vinegar.

My husband picked out this shirt for me because he thinks I'm abnormally short (5'3" is not that short :P)

I'm waiting on my Aran stitch book and The Knitted Teddy Bear, and I need to desperately finish up my big sack sweater, all it needs are a few more rows on the sleeves and of course finishing :|. I still need to sew up my noro envelope bag too again with the finishing. I swear if I had the money I would hire someone to finish this stuff for me.

YARNGASM!!!! [05 May 2005|11:01am]
[ mood | cheerful ]

My order from Knitpicks...

The lace weight will be http://www.knitty.com/ISSUEspring05/PATTbranchingout.html branching out.

The Wool of the Andes on the left will be http://www.helloyarn.com/miniskulltote.htm mini skull and crossbones tote.

The lettuce Andean Silk is going out to a friend.

And the merino style will be a sheep from Debbie Bliss toy knits.

I figured I would start small with lace since I've maybe been known to get frusterated with large never ending projects *coughcough afghan coughcough*.

I haven't finished anything in awhile, except the last star blanket which I must photograph, this time I put a ruffle border around it to make it a little different.

I'm also almost done with the Big Sack Sweater from the original Stitch and Bitch.

I ordered yarn from handpaintedyarn.com to make Cleaves from knitty. Lots of controversy over that one, either people love it or they hate it.

I blew half my clothing budget on yarn! Thank doG for ebay or I wouldn't have any clothes.

Long time no update.. [22 Apr 2005|04:57pm]
[ mood | okay ]

But I have been working! First more star blankies, the purple/magenta/white one is finished, I'm still waiting on my cotton ease bubblegum for the second (you guys rock, you know who you are!!!).

I am taking a star break after these, I've made 5 of these things already.

Here is a bag for a friend's daughter, it's the booga bag with the addition of a crocheted/felted flower that I did on my own.

I made it in elann peruvian highland wool. I just adore that stuff for felting, it's the best I've ever used.

Next I did two rose bath poufs from www.crochetme.com.

And last but not least the doggy wearing my sweater!

I also did the hurry up spring armwarmers and an envelope mitered square bag in Noro. Pics of those to come later when I clean of my compact flash card lol.

I'm out of new projects, so I'm trying to finish the neverending cabled afghan, I've had to rip that thing so many times it's ridiculous, I've got about 10 inches done so far, just 48 to go! Wugh.

I'm also looking at shawls, I'm thinking of doing Charlotte's Web in Koigu, but I can't decide on colors yet.

Dog Sweater.. [05 Apr 2005|10:43am]
[ mood | blah ]

For a very small hairless dog.

Back

Underneath

Hopefully the friend that I made it for takes pics of the dog wearing it :D would be interesting to see it on an acutal animal. Before I washed it I tried to put it on my cat, um yeah nothing is skeerier than trying to put a 12 lb pile of fur claws and teeth into a sweater *shudder*.

Not really much going on, lots of working on things for people, made another pair of furry slippers, and I'm working on a booga bag in peruvian highland wool. Awaiting my yarn to start baby blankets.

I think I may do the sheep from Debbie Bliss's toy knits, I love them they are so cute and would look good in my craft space (that I pray I have) in our new house.

Not so Ugg-ly. [28 Mar 2005|01:38pm]
[ mood | calm ]

I finally finished my bag! I got really bored with it because of all the PITA finishing, but I was waiting on yarn for something and picked it up.

I put a tutorial here...http://www.craftster.org/forum/index.php?topic=29934.0

I finished another pair of furry slippers, just need felting. I find myself at and odd impass, I really have nothing pressing to do. I need to wait until pay day for yarn for my cousin's baby's blanket, I'm waiting for a MO to get supplies to make another bag. So I really have nothing right now *gasp*. Guess it's time to pick up one of those UFOs. Maybe the armwarmers, I think that would be a nice quick project, I already know it's going to be too warm to wear the sweater I'm making by the time I finish the front, neck and sleeves.

I'm thinking of attempting to dye silk scarves, I saw a tutorial on dying fabric with koolaid (animal fiber fabric that is) so I'm going to give it a shot I think.

I also found another book to add to my never ending want list http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/1400054370/102-6826811-3422544?v=glance I should have gotten this one to begin with, I have one by Debbie Bliss, and well yeah I think the patterns in here are probably less annoying.

Star Blankie!! [19 Mar 2005|08:29pm]
I finished it.

My son loves it! So ironically does the cat, lol.

Here is my finished knit bikini top, I'm thinking it's headed for the frog pond though. It looks, just wrong on me. It looks better on this here lamp if that tells you anything lol.

I started a tube top out of what was left of the yarn, and what I'm going to rip out of that bikini. Sigh. This is my first time ever not liking something so much that I frogged. Makes me a little sad.

Looking through old pics I found this one of my kiddo..

I cannot believe how big he is now!

My neverending project list just gets bigger and bigger, and that's just how I like it. I remember the brief interlude I had where I didn't have supplies for anything and nothing in mind. I just about went crazy.

[ mood | chipper ]

I would have never thought there would be a day when my husband would beg me to go yarn shopping, but last night was it and I'm glad he made me go. Got the stuff for X's blankie! I swear this is the cheapest large project I've ever done, lol. Doesn't my husband have good taste? He picked out the blue yarn and the bernat frenzy to edge it with. I had no idea!

Excuse my hideous basement/office couch, it's truly nasty. It's about the same age as me if that tells you anything.

If YumYum could speak he would say "hey lady get this thing off my couch I want to lay down".

When we came back from Michaels and parked the van near the garage I saw these tracks..

What on earth hops around on one leg that could make something like that? They snake over to my neighbor's yard and then back to mine. If you don't hear from me for awhile assume that the one legged what the heck ever has gotten me and dragged me back to it's home.

I started the hurry up spring armwarmers and noticed a huge boo boo in the pattern, so I wanted to share this link for those who haven't seen it. Pattern corrections from both Sn&Bs http://www.bust.com/knithappens/oops.shtml. HTH anyone frusterated about something not working right from there.

Well time to get ready to take the peanut sled riding, well ok J is taking him sled riding, I'm going to snap some pictures then crochet in the van. Like how that works? :D

I finally feel better about this afghan, I got one complete pattern repeat done and almost two skeins of yarn in..

Terrible quality picture thanks to the snow, and it looked crappy with the flash. I stopped in the middle of a row last night so it looks more like a skirt. I think I may finish it! I was truly ready to rip it out and find another use for the yarn, but now I'm starting to love it.

Hacky sack/ball prefelt, looks more like an egg *shrug* oh well.

I really have to use up all this koolaid dyed stuff.

Speaking of kool aid, I think I'm going to try this..http://www.knitpicks.com/yarns/yarn_display.aspx?itemid=5420102 it is very very cheap, and if I screw up dying it I won't be kicking myself in the arse.

I finally found a bunch of free lace patterns, I'm going to make a headscarf out of this http://www.knitpicks.com/yarns/yarn_display.aspx?itemid=5420108 You seriously cannot beat the price of these yarns.

Ahh the weather is torturing me, http://www.weather.com/activities/other/other/weather/tenday.html?locid=USOH0196 our ten day forcast. This is supposed to be MARCH, given not exactly warm but not the constant SNOW either. I'm so looking foreward to sitting outside all day in the sun.

Well time to clean the house and get mah knit on. I'm trying desperately to finish my bikini today.
